"My approach to intervention is rooted in respect for child development and focuses on making the mundane meaningful, looking at daily interactions as opportunities for learning and growth while respecting the uniqueness of the individual and family. It’s about setting high expectations for long term quality of life and relationships for individuals on the spectrum and implementing a specific and doable plan to get there one step at a time.”

Time Outs are Time Ins

I recently read this story on an Autism Forum, and loved it!

There were two men chopping down trees. One man would go and take a break every 30 minutes. The other man kept working and working and hardly ever took a break. As the hours wore on, who had chopped down more trees?

The man who took a break every 30 minutes!

The other man was angry and frustrated. "I work so much harder than him. I never take a break." he thought. Finally he asked the first man, "What do you do when you take a break?"

"I sharpen my axe" said the first man.

Breaks can feel like giving up, or taking time away from "treatment".  However, in reality, they are time INs!

I read the same story, it's a good one to remember...
Huge thanks to you for listing my blog on your site. I keep going off on a tangent and write about other happenings in my life instead of RDI!! :D
Best wishes
